ICT RESOURCES

This section of the blog will show a rich variety of ICT Resources that teachers can use in order to provide a good CLIL practice.

WEBSITES

ABC TEACH
Worked competences
  • Digital competence
  • Learning to learn competence
Little explanation

On the other hand, teachers can find several resources to apply in class such as flashcards, worksheets or programs to download for the classroom computer. There is even a tool to create their own worksheets called Abc tools (custom worksheet generators). The webpage is organised in different categories: subjects, popular topics, levels, interactive activities and seasonal favourites. It is a really intuitive tool available for all ages. Finally, if the tool becomes popular, parents, students or teachers can become a member by just paying a little amount of money per year that allows the access to further resources.
On the one hand, learners can use the tool to assess, store or produce information about different topics while playing with the different interactive games or downloading worksheets to print for home. Moreover, this fact enhances the ability of the pupils to organise their learning; they are aware of their needs so they chose on what to work. It encourages self-initiative in the learning process.
You can find the website in this link.

DLTK
Worked competences:
  • Digital competence
  • Mathematical competence and basic competences in science and technology
  • Communication in the foreign language competence
  • Learning to learn competence
Little explanation:
This tool is made of different websites. The most interesting ones are, first Kidzone, in which we find worksheets to print and work on different subjects.

Then we find DLTK-teach, which is based on crafts focused on maths and literacy.  There are also printable games, printable templates, interactive games such as puzzles and links to other useful websites. It is organised by “buddies” in order to approach to young kids and make it motivational and significant for them.

Finally, DLTK-kids. This is the main page of the group of websites, from which you can accede the others. In these main site there are crafts and printable activities and games about other non-academic topics (festivities, multiculturality...).

You can find the websites in the following links: kidzone, DLTK-teach and DLTK-kids.

ANGLÈS 365
Worked competences:
  • Digital competence
  • Communication in foreign languages competences
  • Mathematical competence
  • Learning to learn competence.
Little explanation:
It is a Catalan site that tries to work on CLIL. Here you have attached directly the link to work with 6 to 8 years old students, but in the main page there is information and useful resources about CLIL for teachers and the other grades’ tools. There is also a blog that the creator of the website updates with more useful tools or content to work on CLIL from time to time.

As well as the other webpages, they can be used by teachers to apply some activities in class or autonomously by students at their homes (that is why learning to learn is developed, as they are the owners of their learning process).

Therefore, what can we find for 1st and 2nd grade? Mainly games to work on maths or literacy but there are also songs, stories, printable activities and more.

You can find the website in this link

INTERNET4CLASSROOMS
Worked competences:
  • Mathematical competence and basic competences in science and technology
  • Social and civic competence
  • Digital competence
  • Learning to learn competence
Little explanation:
In Internet4Classrooms there are three sites very interesting for CLIL.

Regarding mathematics, we can select the math skills we want to work: operations, geometry, algebra… In addition, inside every topic, we can specify the content related to each skill. It is very well ordered and visual. In each content here are usually two categories: exercises and games and practice tests and quizzes; although we can find a third one in some.

Moving to the other two competences, science and technology and social and civic, there is a section in which all the skills appear as well. There is a list for 1st grade and another for 2nd grade, as despite having the same skills the cognitive level increases. Inside each skill we can find different topics and different activities for each one.

Thanks to different icons that appear we can know, before entering to the different exercises, their format: printable, interactive, with sound, lessons plans… It is very well organised.

You can find the websites in these links: science, social studies, maths 1 and maths 2.

GAMES

FUNBRAIN
Worked competences:
  • Mathematical competence
  • Communication in foreign languages competence
  • Digital competence
Little explanation:
Games are distributed among grades and coloured differently according to the type: maths, literacy and just for fun. Furthermore, in each game there is a little description of the grade, type of game, the subject worked and the skills promoted.

Loads of games can be found in different grades, as they can choose the difficulty or the difficulty increases with the levels. Therefore, before letting the children use the website autonomously, we should inform them about these aspects in order to promote a good use of the page.

You can find these games in this link.

PBS KIDS
Worked competences:

  • Mathematical competence and basic competences in science and technology.
  • Communication in foreign languages competence.
  • Cultural awareness and expression.

Little explanation:
There are games about literacy, maths, music, arts, nature, health… Children can choose the topic to work or the characters they like; the protagonists of the games are from famous TV cartoons. The only problem is that the ages are not specified so we should search before which are the appropriate ones for our kids. There is also a section of videos, but they can just be watched from the United States.

You can find these games in this link.

PRIMARY GAMES
Worked competences:
  • Digital competence
  • Mathematical competence and basic competences in science and technology.
  • Communication in foreign languages competence
  • Social and civic competence.
Little explanation:
In order to find these games there is a section called learn in which there are 3 more sections: maths, science, reading and social studies. There are other items apart from games such as printable activities, books and videos that can be used in the classroom. There are also other games that don’t work any specific competence, they are just to have fun but are in English so they are also very useful.

Again, in this website ages or grades are not specified so if we want our students to work some specific item, we should do a research before.

You can find these games in this link.

BBC
Worked competences:
  • Digital competence
  • Mathematical competence and basic competences in science and technology.
  • Communication in foreign languages competence
Little explanation:
The BBC has a lot of materials to learn English. However, in this section they propose several games to work also on maths and science a part from English.

When surfing on the web you can select the key stage you want and then the topics (English, Science, or Maths). The games offer high quality content as the BBC is a very serious platform that chooses their resources carefully.

You can find these games in this link.

APPS

EXPRESS PUBLISHINS - CLIL READERS
Worked competences:
  • Digital competence
  • Basic competences in science and technology.
  • Communication in foreign languages competence
Little explanation:
The editorial Express Publishing offers different apps made for ages 7 and over, students can choose among 6 levels of difficulty. The topics are basically about the natural world; they offer the opportunity for the pupils to explore the world and learn about it. They also include a guide for teachers to learn how to use the readers and make a significant use of them.

The negative aspect is that you have to pay for it. However, there are several videos on the internet to know more about the apps before buying them, as well as the reviews, so you can have a previous idea and think if they are useful for your class or not.

You can find the apps and how to download them in this link.
