FILMS

This section of the blog will show a rich variety of Films that teachers can use in order to provide a good CLIL practice.

SCIENCE

BUG’S LIFE: This film is very recommendable to be used in Science Subject. The plot is simple and students from Key Stage 1 can understand it while discovering insects living conditions. We consider that it can be a good film illustrate the unit about vertebrate and invertebrate animals.

EMOTIONAL EDUCATION

INSIDE OUT: This film can be used as an introduction to present some basic emotions. In Key Stage 1 we can start to introduce some complex concepts such as “empathy” but they would not be mature enough to comprehend all the complex meaning about them. For this reason, it is interesting that this film is based on simple emotions: happiness, sadness, annoyance and nausea.

MATHS

DONALD IN MATHMAGIC: It is a very old film and maybe it is not very attractive for young students. In addition, there are some complex mathematical ideas. However, we can select the most useful parts for them. Taking into account that we are focused on Key Stage 1 the most adequate part would be the mathematics origin.

HISTORY

BEN AND ME: This film explains the Benjamin Franklin’s life and it can be used in History subject. On the one hand, it can be used a biography to work on this type of text or in concrete to study Franklin’s life. On the other hand, we can use it to analyse the roles of the society of that period of time. It is recommended for 5 to 8 years’ children.

THE PRINCE OF EGYPT: Although there is a narrative story about love and adventures, it presents a lot the construction of pyramids and other typical facts in ancient Egypt. For this reason, it can be used to work on this civilization.

ASTERIX: THE MANSIONS OF THE GODS: Of course there are fantastic parts that are not real, but this film is a good opportunity to present in an attractive way the romans’ living conditions, their traditions, cities...
